Visitation of Inmates at the Oneida County Jail:
The first section of this page describes routine visits with inmates, such as
visits by family and friends. The visitation rules are different for
professional and clergy visits. See "Other Visitation Rules" at the end of
this section for additional information.
The Visitation area is located in the Correction Facility. The entrance to
the visitation lobby is located directly below the "Public Safety Complex"
sign.

Visitation Hours:

Inmate visitation hours are held on Tuesday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. There is no visitation on Sundays or Mondays, or on the 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year's Day.

Visitors must arrive prior to their scheduled visit hour. If a visitor is late, the visit will be cancelled. The inmate will be charged for the visit.

There are no accomodations made for visitors arriving late. Once the visitor's group has entered the visitation area, no others will be allowed to enter.
Scheduling a Visit:
-

Visits are scheduled by appointment only, and appointments must be made at
least 24-hours in advance of the desired visitation time. Visits will
not be scheduled more than one week prior to the desired visiting time.

Appointments are to be made by the intended visitor, either by phone or in
person.
No 3rd party appointments are allowed.

Phone calls to schedule a visit will be taken on Tuesday through Saturday,
between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM. No calls are accepted during the
lunch break from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

If you need to cancel your visit, a 24-hour notice is required. If you
do not make proper notice, the inmate will be charged for the visit.
Visitation General:
-
Each inmate is allowed (2) one hour visits each visitation week. The
visitation week begins on Tuesday and ends on Saturday. An inmate can
only receive one visit per day.

No more than TWO visitors are allowed to visit an inmate at one time. Infants
under the age of 1-year-old are not included in the visitor count. There are
no exceptions to the under the age of 1-year" rule: If a child is 1-year-old or more, the child is counted as a visitor.

Visits are generally Contact visits.
Exceptions:
-
Inmates will receive only non-contact visits during the first three days of
incarceration. This is for classification purposes. The visits may be
scheduled for any time and day during regular visitation hours.

Inmates being disciplined or under administrative segregation may be restricted
to non-contact visits. The visits may only be scheduled for Wednesdays,
Thursdays, and Fridays at 7:30 AM.

Inmates with medical or mental health issues may be restricted to non-contact
visits. The visits may only be scheduled for Wednesdays, Thursdays, and
Fridays at 7:30 AM.
Identification of Visitors:

Visitors must present proper identification upon arrival for a visit.

Visitors 16-years-old and older will be required to present one of the
following forms of photo identification:

Driver's license or license style driver's permit.
-
Sheriffs Office Personal Identification Card.
-
New York State Personal Identification Card.
-
Social Service benefit card.
-
Visitors under 16-years-old will be required to present one of the
following as proof of identity:
-
Birth certificate.
-
Social Security Card.
-
School issued identification card (Oneida County school).
-
Social Service Benefit Card.
-
Baptismal Record.
-
In addition to having proper identification, 16 & 17-year-old visitors must be in the company of a parent or guardian; or present written permission to visit from such parent or guardian. The written permission must include a telephone number and address where the parent can be contacted for verification.

Visitors 15-years-old or less must be in the company of a parent or legal
guardian at all times while in the visitation room or lobby area.
Visitor Conduct and Rules:
-
Visitors are required to walk through a metal detector, and submit to a
pat-search before entering the visiting room; solely to ensure they possess no
contraband. A refusal to be pat-searched will prohibit a contact
visit. A refusal to walk through the metal detector will prohibit a visit
of any nature.

Nothing is to be passed between an inmate and visitor unless approved and
observed by an Officer. Passing unauthorized items (including tobacco products)
to inmates is a punishable offense and violators will be arrested and
prosecuted.

Cameras and tape recording devices are not permitted in the visiting room
without prior written consent from the sheriff or his designee.

Lewd or offensive conduct is not permitted and if observed, your visit will be
terminated.
-
You are allowed one brief kiss at the beginning, and one brief kiss at the end
of your visit.
-
Inmates and visitors are allowed to hold hands across the table, but any other
physical contact is not permitted.
-
While in the visiting room, you are not allowed to talk to anyone other than
the inmate that you are visiting and your co-visitor. Cross-visiting (talking
to an inmate to whom you are not scheduled to visit) is prohibited.

Children fifteen-years of age and younger must be accompanied at all times while
in the visitation room and lobby area, by a parent or legal guardian.

Disruptive visitors or children will be directed to leave the visitation room
or lobby area.

Visitors must remain seated at all times while in the visiting room. This
includes children over one year old. Children under 1-year-old can be placed on
top of the counter if held securely. At no time can the child be placed on the
inmates side of the visiting counter.

Visitors under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed to visit.
Prohibited Items (Contraband):
Visitors are required to empty their pockets, and remove from their person
all items except clothing, wedding bands, prescription eyewear and medical
alert bracelets. Possession of anything else; for example: weapons,
money, drugs, pens, cell phones, and pagers is illegal.You will be
arrested and charged with "Promoting Prison Contraband" if you attempt to enter
the visitation area in possession of any prohibited item.

All jewelry and other metal items including watches, earrings and piercings.
-
Hair grooming and restraining devices, such as combs, barrettes, pins, clips
and other solid devices are prohibited. Rubber or elastic bands are acceptable.

Outerwear, including hats.
-
Purses, bags, fanny-packs, backpacks, totes, etc.
-
Sip cups, sports bottles or any beverage container.
-
Baby items (with exception of receiving blanket, pacifier, and a clear bottle for
newborns).
-
All items from pockets: wallet, money clips, paper and coin money, knives,
nail-clippers, everything.
-
Photos, mail, other documents.
-
Pens, paper, crayons, books, toys, electronic devices, MP3 players, cell
phones and pagers.
-
Recording devices, including cameras and camcorders.
This list is not inclusive of all prohibited items. If you have anything
on your person other than your clothes, wedding band, medical alert bracelet or
prescription eyewear, it is probably a prohibited item and therefore considered
Contraband. If you do not know if an item is considered contraband, ask a
Visitation Officer./P>
Removed items can be locked in your vehicle or deposited in coin-operated
lockers with a non-refundable 25-cent deposit. Items left in the lobby
and not secured in a locker are left at your own risk. Officers are not
responsible for the safekeeping of your property.
Prohibited Clothing:
Visitors will not be allowed into the visiting room wearing any of the following
clothing items:

See-through tops or bottoms.
-
Low-cut tops.
-
Shirts or tops with spaghetti straps.
-
Halter-tops.
-
Shirts that expose any mid-drift section.
-
Bra-type tops.
-
Short skirts or short shorts.
-
General guideline: Stand straight with arms hanging naturally at your sides and
fingers pointing towards the ground. Your fingers should not extend below
the hem of your shorts or skirt.
-
Any provocative or revealing clothing; whether by design, alteration or wear.
-
Clothing with offensive or alarming graphics, printing, or designs.
-
Bulky clothing such as: sweatshirts, heavy sweaters, coats, jackets.
Visitation officers will make final determination in questions of inappropriate
clothing.
Other visitation rules and information:
-
Inmates and visitors are subject to video and voice recording while in the
visitation lobby and the visitation room.
-
An inmate can refuse your visit. The inmate does not have to supply a reason
for their refusal of the visit. If an inmate refuses your visit, you will
have to leave.

No photographs, letters, mail, or other objects are allowed into the visiting
room.
-
If you need an inmate to sign a document, corrections staff must first
approve it. An Officer will hand the document to the inmate and provide a
pen for signing.
-
Baby diapers cannot be changed in the visitation room or lobby. Changing
tables are located in the men's and women's rooms.

Anyone may leave money for an inmate at the commissary window on Tuesday through
Friday, 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. The commissary is located immediately to the right upon
entering the visitation lobby.

Clothing and other approved property can be dropped off on Monday through
Friday only. Follow the directions located on the right side wall of the
Visitation foyer.

You may deliver two books for an inmate on the first Thursday of every month
between the hours of 7:00 AM 11:00 AM. Books will not be accepted at any
other time.

A visit will be terminated and visiting privileges denied, restricted or
revoked if any rules or regulations are violated.
Clergy Visits:

Clergy visits take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 7:45 AM. The visits
are one hour long and need to be scheduled in advance.

Clergy visit time will not be counted toward the inmates regular visiting time
for the week.

Clergy must present credentials and proper identification.
-
All rules of conduct, contraband and clothing apply.
Professional Visits:

Visits with attorneys, social workers, law enforcement officials and other
authorized professionals are held seven days per week, from 7:30 AM to 10:00
PM.

Professional visits are not limited in time, but all inmates are required to be
present in their housing unit from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM, 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM and
6:30 PM - 7:00 PM.

Professional visits do not need to be scheduled in advance, but a phone call to
verify the availability of the inmate may save an unnecessary trip.

Professional visit time will not be counted toward the inmates regular
visiting time for the week.

Professional visitors must present credentials and proper identification. All
rules of conduct, contraband and clothing apply.
